“Carry on Jaywick is an innovative and fascinating insight into an overlooked community.” – Paul Jellis, Executive Director, HighTide

Carry on Jaywick is deeply moving, funny, acute and invaluable. Dan Murphy’s verbatim play is always respectful of the impoverished community that is its subject, but it is also poetic, brave and visionary.” –  Lucy Maycock, North Wall

A new verbatim play made up entirely of the words of real people, Carry on Jaywick is a story of hope amongst the hopeless, of laughter in the darkest times and a celebration of what it means to fight for where you come from.

Jaywick is one of them places where you either make it, or break it. And a lot of people been breaking it round here.

Jaywick is a seaside village on the Essex coast, recently ranked among the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. This heartwarming and hilarious play travels through its village halls and dance classes, family rows and moments of inspiration, revealing a slice of English life which has largely been forgotten.

Actors wearing headphones listen to recorded interviews with Jaywick residents and deliver what they hear to the audience: this is ‘reality theatre’ in action.

Running time: 65 minutes (no interval)
Recommended age: 12+

Please note, we won't be posting out physical or E-Tickets tickets for this event. All you will need to do is go along, just before the start of the event with your order number (which is given in your confirmation email) and some form of ID
